What's the difference between WPI and WPC and why does it matter?
Whey protein concentrate (WPC) is the starting point, it typically contains 60 - 80% protein by weight, with the rest being lactose, fat, and moisture. Whey protein isolate (WPI) goes through an additional filtration step to remove most of that. Rhise WPI sits at 90% protein by weight (25g per 30g serve), with under 1g of lactose. If you're serious about protein efficiency or you've had gut issues with cheaper whey, WPI is the cleaner option.
Why is Rhise WPI priced higher than other options?
Three reasons.
First, cross-flow microfiltration costs more to run than standard processing but it produces a purer, more bioavailable protein.
Second, HASTA batch certification isn't cheap, and we do it on every production run, not once as a marketing exercise.
Third, it's made in Australia. If you're comparing sticker price alone, cheaper options exist.
What does HASTA certification actually mean for me?
HASTA (Human and Supplement Testing Australia) independently tests each batch of Rhise WPI for over 250 substances banned in sport under WADA and ASADA guidelines. If you're a drug-tested athlete whether that's powerlifting, athletics, AFL, swimming, or any ASADA-governed sport HASTA certification means you can use Rhise without putting your career at risk. You can verify our batch certificate directly on the HASTA website using the lot number printed on your tub.
I'm lactose intolerant, can I use this?
Most people with lactose intolerance tolerate WPI well. Rhise WPI contains less than 1g of lactose per 30g serve well below the threshold that typically causes symptoms. That said, lactose intolerance varies from person to person. If you have a diagnosed dairy allergy (IgE-mediated, not intolerance), this product still contains milk-derived protein and is not suitable for you. When in doubt, check with your GP or dietitian.
When should I take it?
Post-training is the classic use case, WPI absorbs quickly, which matters in the 30 - 60 minute window after a session. But honestly, the most important thing is total daily protein. If you're hitting your target (roughly 1.6–2.2g per kg of bodyweight for active people), timing matters less than most brands will tell you. Use Rhise WPI whenever it helps you close the gap; post-training, mid-morning, or as a late snack.
How does it taste mixed with water vs milk?
With water (250 - 300ml): clean, lighter in texture, slightly less sweet and good if you're watching calories or training fasted. With milk: creamier, richer, closer to a shake. Both flavours: Chocolate and Vanilla are formulated to work well with water, which is the harder test for any protein powder. If it tastes good in water, it tastes great in milk.
Is Rhise an Australian brand?
Yes, Rhise is an Australian-owned and Australian-made brand. The product is manufactured locally, batch tested locally through HASTA, and built for how Australians actually train and eat. When you buy Rhise, you're buying from a brand that's accountable to the same standards you hold yourself to.
